Whaskety Fernando launches Tratado Sobre Noite na Beira
"Tratado Sobre Noite" is the title of Whaskety Fernando's third book, published by Mapeta Editora, which will be launched in the city of Beira on August 7th at the Portuguese Cultural Center, starting at 6pm. The presentation will be given by academic Cristóvão Seneta.
In this new poetic proposal, Whaskety Fernando guides us along the banks of an inland river, where day persists on one side and night on the other. It is in this night, a place of exile, weariness and contemplation, that the poet finds himself and writes. His verses are born out of the dark, but they don't go out: instead, they ignite the essential questions, the silent desires, the losses that sprout flowers, and the marginal songs that only the soul hears. "Treatise on Night" is an invitation to inhabit the night that we all carry inside.

Whaskety Fernando was born in Munhava, in the city of Beira, where he lives. He began publishing his texts on the "Diálogo" page of the "Diário de Moçambique" newspaper. He was a finalist for the Fernando Leite Couto Literary Prize for his novella "Noites de desassossego" and for the Carlos Morgado Literary Prize for his short story "A idade do Rosto". He is the author of "Os últimos animais" (2023), a novel, and "O prazer ao chorar de dor" (2024), poetry.
Cristóvão Seneta, who holds a Master's degree in Literary, Cultural and Inter-Arts Studies from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Porto, is a lecturer at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of Zambezi University. He has published widely, including a book based on the study he carried out for his master's degree, book chapters, articles and several prefaces to literary and essayistic books. (Press release)
