Presidente da República alerta para o aumento de casos de mpox no País

The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, has warned about the increase in cases of monkey pox, known as mpox, in the country. Speaking yesterday during a popular rally in the municipal district of KaTembe, Maputo city, Chapo called on the population to implement preventative measures.

"We have to prevent ourselves and the prevention measures are no different from those we used to take during Covid-19, which is to distance ourselves from people, avoid crowds, avoid holding hands, avoid touching people. Also, when we touch anything, we have to wash our hands, permanently disinfect our hands to prevent mpox from affecting or infecting us," said Chapo.

The number of positive cases in Mozambique has risen to 67, with one more recorded in the last 24 hours in Maputo, bringing the total number of suspects to 921.

In the most recent daily bulletin released this Saturday (30) by the National Directorate of Public Health, with data from July 11 to August 29, there are no deaths to report, apart from a total of 32 recovered.

The case recorded in the last 24 hours was confirmed in Manhiça, Maputo province, the document also states, which also mentions 32 new suspects in the same period, bringing the cumulative total to 921.

So far, the health authorities have counted 67 positive cases of mpox in Mozambique, 60 of them in Niassa, the epicenter of the disease, three in Manica and four in Maputo province.
