This Monday, the President of the Republic, Daniel Francisco Chapo, received the Japanese Ambassador accredited to Mozambique, Hamada Keiji, in a meeting that served to reaffirm the "excellent level of bilateral relations" and to plan new areas of cooperation, with emphasis on economic development and the sustainable exploitation of natural resources.

Speaking to the press at the end of the hearing, the Japanese diplomat explained that this was his first opportunity to meet the Mozambican head of state.

"I've just had an audience with His Excellency the President of the Republic. For me it was the first time I'd had this opportunity to meet the President. The main objective is to introduce myself and greet His Excellency the President," he said.

During the meeting, Hamada Keiji said that he had discussed with the Mozambican President central themes of the partnership between the two countries, expressing the desire to strengthen cooperation to support Mozambique's development.

"Our discussions included bilateral relations between the two countries, and also expressing our intention to continue cooperating with Mozambique, so that Mozambique can be developed and make economic progress."

The diplomat said he had received an encouraging response from the Head of State. "The President's response was very positive, he also recognized the importance of bilateral relations, which are excellent and impactful. And we really agreed that relations between the two countries are very good," revealed Hamada Keiji.

The Ambassador also highlighted Mozambique's strategic role in Japanese foreign policy, especially in the Indo-Pacific region. "I think Mozambique is one of the most important countries for Japan. We pay a lot of attention and importance to the Indo-Pacific region," he said.

Among the sectors with the greatest potential for cooperation, the diplomat pointed to natural resources as one of his country's priorities. "[...] We want to cooperate with Mozambique to develop natural resources such as liquefied natural gas."

The meeting between President Chapo and the Japanese Ambassador is part of the Mozambican government's efforts to consolidate strategic partnerships with friendly countries and mobilize investment to boost sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
