INGD reitera compromisso com resiliência climática e gestão de desastres

INGD reiterates commitment to climate resilience and disaster management

Last Friday (29), the National Institute for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (INGD) reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the national response to extreme weather events, advocating greater resilience and coordinated action between sectors and partners.
The announcement was made by the president of INGD, Luísa Meque, at the closing of the organization's "IV Session of the Consultative Council", which took place over two days (August 28-29) in the city of Matola, Maputo province.
"We left this meeting confident, with solid foundations for the operationalization of the government's objectives in the area of disaster risk management and reduction, as a cross-cutting issue. It was a session of commitments that we made and that we are committed to carrying out in the short, medium and long term," she said.
Among the consensus reached was the need to strengthen INGD's internal and external coordination, ensuring greater efficiency in the exchange of information and joint work with national and international partners.
According to the leader quoted by AIMIt is essential to "continue to socialize the Law on Disaster Risk Management and Reduction, so that all the actors involved are clear about their role and competencies when an alert is triggered."
The council also stressed the priority of strengthening the Local Risk Management Committees, giving them greater operational strength and versatility. "Where deemed necessary, we should involve sectors such as health, firefighters, the Red Cross and civic services," added Luísa Meque.
