10 million controversy: RENAMO denies FRELIMO in Beira
The Mayor of Beira, Albano Carige, recently made ten million meticais available to distribute to youth and women's initiatives.
But the case has raised questions with the Front for the Liberation of Mozambique (FRELIMO) in the Municipal Assembly. The comrades claim that there was no approval from the Assembly for this, which is why they suspect Carige of money laundering. Frelimo promises to bring the case to justice.

Reacting to FRELIMO's position, Albano Carige said that the plan contained a manifesto for the municipality's achievements until 2028 and that this had been approved by the Assembly at its second ordinary session.
On this issue, the Mozambican National Resistance (RENAMO) believes that FRELIMO is mistaken, as the 10 million meticais project was approved by the Municipal Assembly, including FRELIMO.
"The Mayor of Beira is covered by total legality. It's those who are making this kind of accusation who should be incurring in legality, making unreasonable accusations, stretching the rope to the point of calling it money laundering. They probably aren't used to living in difference, with others who think differently from them," said Geraldo Carvalho, head of the RENAMO caucus in the Beira Municipal Assembly.
For Carvalho, the "minimum" that FRELIMO in Beira should do is apologize for the accusations.
"Because what is being done was approved in the plenary session of the Municipal Assembly when the executive asked us to look into the first budget review," he recalled, suspecting that FRELIMO may be acting in bad faith with obscure intentions.
